Food Safety Regulation in Georgia: Assessment of Government’s Reform Efforts in 2015 / Best Food Enterprise of the Year 2016
On May 18, 2016, Europe Foundation (EPF) will be presenting the report Food Safety Regulation in Georgia: Assessment of Government’s Reform Efforts in 2015. Following the presentation and discussion, EPF plans to announce the start of the 2016 Best Food Enterprise competition and acknowledge the successful participants of the 2015 Best Food Enterprise of the Year competition. The event will take place during 10:00 – 13:00 at Tbilisi Marriott Hotel (13 Rustaveli Avenue).
After the opening remarks the guests will be able to learn about the results of the assessment. Namely, the presentation will provide a broad overview of the activities implemented during 2015 by the Government of Georgia (GoG) in food safety field, identifying obstacles hindering the implementation of reforms, and outlining recommendations for overcoming these obstacles. The presentation will be followed by a discussion between the civil society and the GoG representatives.
During the second part of the event, Europe Foundation will award participants of the 2015 Best Food Enterprise of the Year competition and outline the terms of the 2016 competition. Europe Foundation has been organizing the Best Food Enterprise of the Year competitions since 2014 with aim to enhance adherence to food safety standards among food enterprises and to encourage convergence to European policies in this area. To participate in the competition, enterprises need to agree to three unannounced spot-checks by independent food safety experts selected by EPF. The checks will involve collection of samples, which will then be tested in accredited laboratories. The winner is identified based on the results of the lab tests and the reports drafted by the experts. Europe Foundation is pleased to announce that the winner of the 2015 Best Food Enterprise competition is LLC Marche.
The event is organized by Europe Foundation, in the framework of the project funded by the European Union (EU) and Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida).
